Can I bring my own fabric to Whimsical Press for printing?
Yes, at Whimsical Press we are happy to print onto fabric supplied by our customers. There are some important things to take note of when bringing your fabric to us.
Fabrics for Pigment Printing need a special coating to allow the pigments to adhere to the fibers, we can have that done for you. A minimum of 20 meters of fabric is required by the mills that apply the coating to the textiles. **Please note that approximately 1.5 meters of fabric is required to tension the fabric at each end of a roll for pigment printing, so, if you supplied 20 meters of blank fabric you will get approximately 17 meters of printed fabric. Please account for the additional fabric required when supplying your own fabric.
Synthetic fabrics for Sublimation Printing do not require any special treatment, so any length of fabric can be printed, but we recommend a minimum of two meters to ensure that your fabrics run through our machines without a hitch.
What is the widest fabric Whimsical Press is able to print on?
Our machines can accommodate fabrics up to 180cm wide. Please note that some fabric shrinkage may occur during the printing process: Natural Fabrics may shrink up to 12%, and Synthetic Fabrics may shrink up to 5%. It is recommended that you make provision for this when planning the end use of your fabric (e.g. if the useable width of the fabric is 145cm, work on 143cm to be safe).
What is the lead time for textile printing at Whimsical Press?
Small orders take 10 – 15 working days after artwork has been approved and deposit received. At Whimsical Press we strive to get your order out as quickly as possible, so with a bit of magic and factory capacity in your favour, a small order might be ready in as little as 5 – 7 workdays.
Bulk orders require 12 – 20 working days depending on the size of the order. Lead times differ from day to day and an order may be done sooner if possible.
Once artwork approval and a 50% deposit have been received, your order will be allocated a production slot and our team will be able to give you a very realistic timeline for your textile printing to be complete.
What format should artwork be in for digital textile printing?
Print-ready artwork must be supplied in either PDF or TIFF format. If supplied in TIFF format all layers must be flattened.
We require high-resolution artwork at 300dpi for excellent print quality.
Artwork must be true to size (ie. the full-size print, or tile that you want). Please do not scale your artwork as this may cause the resolution to drop below 150dpi which will cause pixelation and an inferior quality print.
We print in CMYK, and prefer artwork supplied in a CMYK colour profile as this will ensure the closest colour match to your original artwork. Our print software is able to read RGB colour profiles, however, the results of the CMYK print might not be an exact match to your original RGB design.
How do I upload my artwork when placing a fabric printing order?
Small file sizes (under 20MB) can be sent directly by email to yusuf@whimsicalpress.co.za
We do however prefer that you send your print-ready artwork via WeTransfer.
Does Whimsical Press offer CMT services?
Whimsical Press does not offer a CMT service, but we know of some really cool companies that do. We are more than happy to put you in touch with a trustworthy cut, make, and trim service provider to transform your fabrics printed at Whimsical Press into wonderful final products.
